What About Bob?
I am not a huge fan of Veggie Tales. That doesn’t come as a huge surprise to many of you. Though, its not really Veggie Tales that is the problem, its the loose retelling of “Bible Stories” that I find problematic. However, I heard Phil Vischer speak this morning at NRB and there are two things he said that will stick with me for quite some time.
The first, is a quote he read from his recent book:
“The impact God has planned for us doesn’t occur when we’re pursuing impact. It occurs when we’re pursuing God.”
The second is a quote he attributed to C.S. Lewis:
“He who has God and everything has no more than he who has God alone.”
Two very powerful ideas to consider. Ambition is a dangerous thing. So often we strive for relevance and greatest impact that we neglect the thing which God really has in store for us.
There are so many things I could say, maybe even SHOULD say, but will leave it for now in order to meditate on these things more fully.
I think I hear a veggie tray calling…
From Genesis 22
1 Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!”
And he said, “Here I am.”2 Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”
3 So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.
